Overheating can prematurely damage the engine!!

There are many reasons that can cause an engine to overheat. The coolant (anti-freeze) level could be low, cooling fans not functioning, restriction of coolant flow, faulty thermostat or even carbon in the cooling system from an already damaged headgasket issue. It is vital to prevent overheating if at all possible! Failure to do so can result in potentially damaging engine beyond repair.

There are a couple signs for an overheating car engine such as steam or smoke from under the hood or the temperature gauge rising to the H (hot) indicator.

There are a few steps you can take if your vehicle begins to overheat:
1) Turn off your A/C and roll down the windows.
2) If overheating persists, turn the heater on full blast.
3) If overheating continues, pull over to the side of the road with your hazard lights on, and open the hood. Allow the engine to cool down before checking the coolant level in the radiator. Never open the cooling system while engine is hot to prevent injury!

It may be best to have a wrecker tow your vehicle to a mechanic shop rather than take a chance on incurring expensive damages due to overheating.
